THE Government of Norway has reiterated its standpoints that there is no palm oil ban in the country. Norway just wants to make sure that palm oil products enter the country are those generated from sustainable process. “There is no statement from the Government of Norway that restricts Indonesian palm oil products to enter the country,” the Ambassador of Indonesia in Oslo Todung Mulya Lubis said on its statement, Saturday (29/6/2019), as reported by Antara. `` Earlier, the Indonesian Embassy in Oslo organized a business seminar with the theme “Sustainable Peat Land and Palm Oil Contribution Toward the Achievement the UN SDGs” which is a part of Festival Indonesia, Friday (28/6/2019). Speaking the opening session, Marit Vea, Political Adviser to the Ministry of the Climate and Environment of Norway asserted that Norway had no intention of banning palm oil. “We just want to make sure if palm oil is produced properly. We acknowledge that palm oil is important for Indonesia’s economy,” Vea said. For that reason, Vea said, Indonesia and Norway just need to sit together and discuss all the matters together so that palm oil can contributes to reduce carbon emission and stop deforestation. `` The seminar also had a presence of President Director of the Indonesia Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) Dono Boestami who delivered an interesting presentation on how important palm oil is and its contribution to economic benefits as well as to achieve the UN’s SDGs. The seminar which attracted 200 Norwegian business leaders and representatives also had a presence of speakers: Chairman of the Indonesia’s Peat land Restoration Agency (BRG) Nazir Foead; Profesor at IPB Prof. Yanto Santosa; and Special Advisor for Finance and Deforestation, Rainforest Foundation Norway Vemund Olsen. A business session was also held which had a presence of speakers: Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) Togar Sitanggang, CEO 1st of Norway Kristine Vergli Grant-Carlsen, Manager Corporate Communication of Nestle Norway Axel Heiberg-Andersen, dan Professor at John Cabot University Prof. Pietro Paganini.
