Energy Minister Plans to Test Biodiesel B30

The government is planning to carry out road tests on the use of fuel with 30-percent biodiesel (B30) in the near future. In the meantime, Indonesia implement B20 on its biodiesel mandatory program and only for mass transportation such as trains. Initially the government plans to implement the B30 program in 2020.
“Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources supports the use of palm oil mix with biosolar. Today, our biodiesel mandatory program B20 only for public service obligation (PSO). We plans to use B20 in non-PSO transportation sector, and accelerate to use B30 if possible,” Jonan said after a meeting in Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Jakarta Friday (6/7/2018).
Jonan also expected Biofuel Producers Association (Aprobi) to be ready to produce B30 biodiesel. Aprobi is expected to have a further discussion on this issue with the Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Transportation.
“If we don’t start now, will not implement B25, B30 at all. We have to carry out a test since all machines need adjustment. That’s why I said that we don’t need to talk with General Electric (GE) and the locomotive maker, Electro Motive Diesel (EMD). The point is we are accelerating the biodiesel mandatory program from B5 to B10, B10 to B15, B15 to B20. That’s what we discussed in the meeting,” Jonan said. ***
