Oil Palm Farmers in Labuhanbatu Selatan Initiate Replanting

SMALLHOLDER oil palm farmers associated to Koperasi Konsumen Anugerah Jaya Mandiri Sejahtera (AJMS) at Perlabian Village in sub-distric of Kampung Rakyat, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency of North Sumatera Province has started replanting their oil palm plantation, (26/7/2018). As reported by Antara Sumut, replanting program funded by the Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS) covers 157 hectare plantation owned by 79 farmers.

SMALLHOLDER oil palm farmers associated to Koperasi Konsumen Anugerah Jaya Mandiri Sejahtera (AJMS) at Perlabian Village in sub-distric of Kampung Rakyat, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency of North Sumatera Province has started replanting their oil palm plantation, (26/7/2018). As reported by Antara Sumut, replanting program funded by the Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS) covers 157 hectare plantation owned by 79 farmers. This is the first for them to replant their estate since 30 years ago. Head Departmental Estate Asian Agri Simon Sihotang stated that this replanting program is funded by grant from BPDPKS. For this program, Asian Agri provides assistance and advise concerning sustainable palm oil and also provides high quality seeds. Replanting process was started by cutting down old trees followed by preparing the soil for planting. The next step is to plant new seedlings called Topaz, supplied by Asian Agri. 23.236 seeds were provided with calculation of 148 trees for every hectares. According to Simon, oil palm trees from those kind of seeds could produce more fresh fruit bunches (FFB) as much as the first generation trees, almost 23,5 tonnes of FFB per hectare per year. ***
