Four PLN’s Power Plants to Use CPO This Year

PT PLN (Persero) is converting four energy plants powered by fossil diesel fuel to plants powered by 100% crude palm oil (CPO)-based biodiesel. The four plower plants are (PLTD) Kanaan 10 MW in Bontang, PLTD Batakan 40 MW in Balikpapan, PLTD Supa 62 MW in Pare-pare, and PLTMG Jayapura 10 MW in Jayapura.

As reported by Detik.com, PLN’s Corporate Planning Director Syofvi Felienty Roekman said the conversion program will be kicked off this year. “Three plants located in Batakan, Pare-pare, and Jayapura, are targeted to use 100% CPO this year. Another one is PLTD Kanaan," Syofvi said in Jakarta, Wedensday (20/2/2019).

The conversion program is part of the company’s road map to gradually reduce use of fossil-based fuel on energy plants. “We are carrying out the test in the four plants. Hopefully we can start using CPO this year.”

PLN’s Director of Regional Business of Eastern Jawa, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara Djoko Rahardjo Abumanan added that the four plants normally absorb 190 thousand kiloliters diesel fuel every year. “If we convert the diesel fuel to CPO, we may potentially save the same volume of diesel fuel," Djoko said as quoted by CNBC Indonesia. ***
