The Government has chosen Riau Province as the pilot project site to synchronize palm oil single data, citing the province has complete aspect of palm oil issues. Should the synchronization be successfully conducted in Riau, the same method would be applicable in other regions. “Riau is a complete laboratory with its dynamics. It has peat lands, forestry issues, etc. Should we succeed solve problems in Riau, we could do the same in other regions,” Policy Advisor for Coordinating Economic Ministry Lin Che Wei in Pekanbaru, Riau, Saturday (25/5/2019). Earlier, a series of meetings has been done, including the one held by Coordinating Economic Ministry with the Indonesia Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) and the Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Also, some discussion and review meeting have been done such as a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held in Pekanbaru, Friday (24/5/2019). The FGD had a presence of representatives from Directorate General of Estate Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture, Coordinating Economic Ministry, and local governments. According to Director General of Estate Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono the FGD discussed the methodology (data synchronization). Lin Che Wei also said that if the government chose other regions, there is no guarantee that it will find the same problem as in Riau. But, putting Riau in the first place will make easier for the government to solve problems in other regions as the solution has been found. Meanwhile Kasdi Subagyono said that Riau has the largest oil palm plantation with its complex issues. “To gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of palm oil problems, we have to go to the largest oil palm plantation,” Kasdi said. According to Kasdi, palm oil data synchronization is the first conducted in Indonesia. “This is time first time for us. We only used to make coordination instead of synchronization and the result shows different figures.” *** (Source: Republika)
