Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto toured ITB’s Laboratory of Chemical Reaction Engineering and Catalyst (TRK), (29/4/219), to see palm oil-based bio-hydrocarbon production process. The laboratory, which is managed by Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) under the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Technology, has produced two products. First product is gas in which LPG is the main component and the second one is liquid product in which vegetable gasoline is the main component. Bio-hydrocarbon is crude oil that is derived from lignocellulosic or vegetable oil biomass. In TRK laboratory, bio-hydrocarbon is developed using catalytic cracking method from palm oil-based vegetable oil biomass. Supported by the Indonesia Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS),
TRK has been conducting research on catalyst to produce fuels and chemical substances from palm oil. From now on, every research is expected to generate marketable products. His visit to ITB came after opening national seminar on the theme `Development 4.0: Meeting the Global Challenges” together with Communications and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, Rector of ITB, and President of ITB Alumni Association. ***
