Indonesia-India Discuss Palm Oil Trade Barriers

NEW DELHI—Indonesian and Indian Government held a billateral talk to discuss trade between the two countries, including on palm oil, betel palm, and Indian jewellery products.

Trade Minister Agus Suparmanto led Indonesian delegation to meet Minister of Railways and Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal in in New Delhi, (20/2/2020).

As stated on a press release, Agus raised Indonesian concern on Indian import regulation on refined palm oil under the code HS 151190. The regulation makes it mandatory for importers to own licence to import refined palm oil.

Indonesia sees the regulation could potentially impact Indonesian businesses in some way since it has never implemented before.

Director of International Trade Negotiation Iman Pambagyo said that eventhough the restriction only for refined palm oil under the code HS 151190, it will trigger barriers to export crude palm oil (CPO) products under the code HS 151110 to India.  ***
