THE Government of Malaysia is planning to implement training program for palm oil farmers just like Indonesia has done. Mostly, Indonesian who works for oil palm plantations in Malaysia are skilled farmers. “They work for plantations in Malaysia, they are good harvester. Now, we have policy to work with training institutions to train youngsters to be good harvesters like Indonesians,” Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar said at seminar with the theme Palm Oil for People and Sustainable Development, in Jakarta, Sunday (1/9/2019). Shamsul said he was impressed with skill Indonesian farmers have. Currently, Malaysia just lack good harvesters as many Indonesians stop working and return to Indonesia. “I think it is something we can can learn from Indonesians.” Speaking at the same event, Yusmadi Yusoff, founder of Rights Foundation criticized the European Union’s policy that discriminates against palm oil. He said, the EU should have treated palm oil fairly. “Indonesia and Malaysia need to explain the truth. I am sure that people in the EU will understand it because not all European has negative perspective about palm oil.” (Sumber: CNBC Indonesia)
