Diplomat Offers Three Solution to Fight Negative Campaign Against Palm Oil

JAKARTA—Indonesia need to continues its effort to fight negative campaign against palm oil by adopting strategic measures. Indonesian Ambassador to Federal Republic of Germany offered three solutions to promote palm oil.

“In this long-fight, Indonesia needs clear strategies to fight the black campaign. We can’t remains reactive, but we have to be proactive, offensive, and smartly aggressive,” he said in an online #INAPalmOil Talkshow, Wednesday (20/5/2020).

First action we can take is to promote palm oil in domestic front. “In this effort, the government needs to collaborate with businesspeople to encourage a campaign at international level,” he said.

The second strategy is to optimize foreign front with legal campaign and investment promotion. For example, Indonesian and Malaysian companies that invest in Europe collaborate to engage in negotiation with government and local communities as a structured campaign step.

Thirdly, Havas said, legal campaign or law action must be taken as strategic steps to engage directly with anti-palm oil parties. Indonesia should be more assertive in filing lawsuits to companies, restaurants, and supermarkets that use "No Palm Oil" labelling on their products. The legal steps will show Indonesia’s firmness as a palm oil producer to protect its strategic commodity. ****
