413 Oil Palm Companies Granted ISPO Certificates

At least 67 oil palm companies, including two farmer self-help cooperatives, have been granted Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificates, giving them a recognition for adopting sustainable plantation.

At least 67 oil palm companies, including two farmer self-help cooperatives, have been granted Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificates, giving them a recognition for adopting sustainable plantation. The 67 companies operate an area of 235.867 hectares of oil palm plantations. As of August 2018, 413 ISPO certificates have been granted to 397 oil palm companies, one plasma farming association, two farmer self-help cooperatives, and three plasma farming cooperatives. Those certificates were granted to the total of 2,34 million hectares of oil palm plantations. The new 67 certificates were handed by Bambang, Director General of Plantation at Indonesia`s Ministry of Agriculture at Menara 165, Jakarta, Tuesday (18/9/2018). Certificates will also be handed to three new certification institution, PT Intertek Utama Services, PT Global Inspeksi Sertifikasi, and PT Tafa Sertifikasi Indonesia. Aziz Hidayat, Head of ISPO Commission Secretariat said the commission is speeding up certification process in order to improve the sustainability of its palm oil industry. `ISPO is a national commitment to improve the standards of good governance, environment protection, and law enforcement,” Aziz said as quoted by Katadata. ***
