Oil Palm Marathon 2019: The First-Ever Run Across Oil Palm Plantation

An international marathon race will be held in Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatera, 13 October 2019. Themed “For Sustainable Oil Palm”, the Oil Palm Marathon 2019 will be the first marathon event which will take runners through the course, which covers oil palm plantation. Oil Palm Marathon 2019 will bring in people from all over the world to run together including professional athletes, amateurs, students, as well as members of Indonesian Army and National Police.

The race offers competitors a course along Bangun Bandar oil palm plantation in Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatera. The event is organized by the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) of North Sumatera, the Indonesian Vegetable Oil Association (GIMNI), and supported by the Indonesia Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS). To mark the soft launch, BPDPKS President Director Dono Boestami registered his interest for the event through online registration in Jakarta, Monday (17/6/2019).

The Oil Palm Marathon 2019 is expected to launch on 23 June 2019 at Hotel Santika, Medan. Promotion will be held in many events that last until October 2019, including during the Indonesian Palm Oil Stakeholder (IPOS) Forum in Medan, 25-26 July 2019 and during the Samosir Ultra Marathon on 21 September 2019.

Promotion contents will also be spread across social media, news media, as well as in a talk show on television. The event offers challenging race with the following categories: First, Men/Women Close National Category (close) 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Full Marathon. Second, Men/Women Open International (open) Half Marathon and Full Marathon. Over 3.000 people might take part in this event. Entrants must pay the following entry fees: Rp400,000 for 42K category, Rp300.000 for 21K, Rp250,000 for 10K, and Rp200,000 for 5K.

Students and members of Indonesian Army and National Police must pay Rp100.000. Participant will receive a race pack of jersey, BIB, and finisher medal. In addition to the race, the event will also host the Archipelago Fritters Festival, promotion of Clean Indonesia Movements, education fair, and promotion of nature-oriented tourism.
