BANDUNG— Research and Development Agency of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the Indonesia Oil Palm Plantations Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), PT Pupuk Indonesia, PT Pertamina, and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and development on biofuel.

The signing ceremony, directly witnessed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, was held in Bandung, Wednesday (4/3/2020).

The partnership aims to collaborate in some spesific areas such as:

  1. Strengthening partnership in planning and technical evaluation of research, development, and utilization of biofuel technology.
  2. Improvement of competency and expertise of human resources and/or institutions; expertise provision; and to share information and science to support research, development and utilization of the biofuel.
  3. Optimization and utilization of biofuel research and development findings in the form of research and development of biohidrocarbon diesel fuel and bioavtur pilot plant. Activities in this stage include providing Basic Engineering Design Package (BEDP), Front End Engineering Design (FEED) including Detail Engineering Design (DED), procurement, construction, commissioning, as well as operational and products testing.
  4. Operating and managing the pilot plant of biohidrocarbon diesel fuel and bioavtur.
  5. Monitoring, evaluation, and conducting technical and economical feasibility studies on development and utilization of biofuel technology.
  6. Technology commercialization strategy.

A pilot plant of biohidrocarbon diesel fuel and bioavtur using Merah Putih catalyst will be established at PT Pupuk Sriwijiaya plant in Palembang, South Sumatera as part of nationally technology commercialization process. The plant is designed to confirm parameter and configuration process at a pilot scale, as well as to conduct product testing which includes property testing, static engine testing, and flight testing using bioavtur. *** (Source: MEMR)
