An invention of helmet made of oil palm waste is developed by a group of researchers from Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB). This research will invent material that can improve quality of mechanical physic of a helmet as well as to reduce import volume of helmet raw material. This research can be done by IPB in collaboration with the Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS). The researchers are Siti Nikmatin, Irmansyah, and Dwi Arso yedi Irwanto. They said that the research could invent a high-quality material made from palm oil empty fruit bunch (EFB) by substituting it with polymer. This new kind of helmet has capability to absorb collision energy, anti-break, and environment-friendly. EFB was chosen as raw materials since it is available abundantly in Indonesia as side product of CPO production. EFB consist of cellulose and is able to be manufactured into fiber size. ***
