Government Implements Transparency Principle on ISPO

The Government will add the transparency principle in the certificate of Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). Including in the transparency policy is the traceability to increase confidence in ISPO while improving data of Indonesian palm oil.

"So far, our data has not been constructed well, and that is what we intend to do," said Deputy of Food and Agriculture Coordination, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Musdhalifah Machmud in ISPO Seminar and Global Market Acceptance in Jakarta, (29/3/2018).

With this new approach, palm oil operators will be able to know the origins of palm oil. In this case, large companies will be easier to meet the requirement of traceability than smallholder farmers. In certain cases, Musdhalifah said, the application of certification to oil palm is an unfair policy. This is not the case for commodities from other countries, especially for vegetable oils which has no obligation to apply certification.

"We sometimes feel unfair, we demand the same certification to be applied to other vegetable oils," he explained as quoted by Kontan.com. ***
