BPDPKS, IPB Organized Training on Sustainable Palm Oil for Teachers

THE Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS) in cooperation with Bogor Agricultural University (Insititut Pertanian Bogor/IPB) organized a traning for agriculture teachers on Understanding Plantation Role and Management: Technology Management Good Agricultural Practices on Sustainable Palm Oil in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (26/6/2018).

BANJARMASIN--The Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS) in cooperation with Bogor Agricultural University (Insititut Pertanian Bogor/IPB) organized a traning for agriculture teachers on Understanding Plantation Role and Management: Technology Management Good Agricultural Practices on Sustainable Palm Oil in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (26/6/2018).

Sudirman, a lecturer from IPB, was one of speakers on the training. He said training on understanding plantation and management was important for teachers to understand the role of oil palm plantations. Since there are a lot misunderstanding and negative informations about the plantation, teachers have to be aware that palm oil is a strategic commodity for Indonesia’s economic development.

“Teachers could share views with their students that sustainable palm oil plantation serves as a direct or indirect livelihood for people and environment,” Sudirman said.

There are many aspects in oil palm plantations, including social, economy, and environment. Palm oil has to be seen as one which can play an important role in furthering economic development as well as securing a rising standard of living for rural people and contributing to food security. In this case, such training is not only important for agriculture teachers but also for other high school teachers. “This is important so that people could understand that oil palm is environmentally friendly.”

This kind of training will also be organized in Bengkulu, South Sumatra, West Sumatra and will continue to other provinces with oil palm plantations such as Riau, Jambi, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and North Sumatra.  (Source: Banjarmasin Post) ***
