Vice President: Biodiesel Can Back 100 Thousand MW Electricity Project
Vice President Jusuf Kalla remarked that the Government is boosting its electricity capacity to 100 thousand megawatts (MW) by 2025 in an effort to support economic growth. It also can be achieved by using diesel power plants fueled by palm oil-based biodiesel. The Vice President demanded Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to issue energy regulations to back government’s efforts in improving electricity infrastructure. `We`ve got palm oil plantation 15 million hectares which is the largest in the world,` said the Vice President as he delivered speech at The 7th IndoEBTKE ConEx 2018 at Balai Kartini, Jakarta (29/8/2018). About 23 thousand MW or 23 percent of the 100 thousand MW of capacity is projected to be provided by renewable energy-based power plants. However, the capacity that is possible to achieved this year is only 9 thousand MW. “In that case, we have to achieve about 14 thousand MW provided by renewable energy-fueled power plants to meet the target. This means the average annual increase should gradually increase 2.000 thousand MW provided by renewable energy-fueled power plants until 2025,” he said. The Vice President said, if the target failed to achieve, the Government broke its own commitment as  electricity demands increase every year. ***
