Palm Oil Cake, West Sumatera’s Top Commodity Export
West Sumatera, one of the largest agricultural producers in Indonesia, has made palm oil cake its top commodity export as the province shipped 10 thousand tons palm oil cake to New Zealand. Palm oil cake is palm oil waste that can be used as raw material in the preparation of poultry rations.

Palm oil cake is palm oil waste that can be used as raw material in the preparation of poultry rations. Apart from to New Zealand, this commodity is also exported to Vietnam, Italy, Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, Netherlands, China, United States, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia.
“We have confirmed that 10 thousand palm oil cake has passed inspection and has phytosanitary certificate issued,” Head of Agricultural Quarantine Agency at the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Jamil said in Teluk Bayur port, Padang, West Sumatera, (6/3/2019).
According to him, palm oil cake export from West Sumatera reached Rp301 billion in 2018. In 2019, the quarantine agency has issued phytosanitary certificate for 23 commodities at total of Rp356,67 billion.
Head of Padang’s Agricultural Quarantine Agency Joni Anwar said that apart from palm oil cake, West Sumatera also shipped six other commodities at total of Rp 59,387 billion, included 32 thousand tons palm kernel shell (PKS) to South Korea.
In order to increase export from West Sumatera, Padang’s Agricultural Quarantine Agency organizes Agro Gemilang 2019, a technical assistance program for exporters.
