MINISTRY of Foreign Affairs organized Oil Palm Workshop for Peace (OPWP) 2018) for participants from some foreign countries. The event which was a pilot project was launched in Hotel Bandara Internasional, in Soekarno-Hatta Airport area, Tangerang, Sunday (10/12/2018).
“It’s time for Indonesia, as the biggest palm oil producers in the world, to promote sustainable palm oil to farmers and local communities in the region,” Siswo Pramono, Head of Policy Analysis and Development Agency at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
OPWP 2018 was organized by Policy Analysis and Development Agency at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Jambi University (UNJA) and was held in Jambi 10-14 December 2018. This pilot project, which also involved Colombian government, aims to provide smallholders a course on sustainable palm oil practices, as well as to share best practices of each participant countries in developing agriculture sector and to keep the peace.
Indonesia and Colombia have a same commitment to keep the peace, moreover the two countries has been non-permanent member of UN Security Council. Along with the workshop, an “Oil Palm for Peace”-themed seminar was also held presented a representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) who spoke about peace program through “cross border local economy development`.
OPWP 2018 was attended by 19 participants from Indonesia (seven participants), Thailand (four participants), Colombia (three participants), Philippines (two participants), Timor Leste (two participants) and Papua New Guinea (one participants). Two palm oil companies were involved in the workshop, namely PT Perkebunan Nusantara VI and PT Asian Agri. ***
