Govt to Increase Use of CPO on Power Plants

THE government has demanded PT PLN (Persero) to use 100% crude palm oil (CPO)-based biofuel on its power plants. PLN is expected to converts diesel fuel to CPO to operate 1.800 megawatts diesel-fueled power plants. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan revealed the information as he spoke to government officials and investor from Finland in Jakarta, Tuesday (9/10/2018). “We have instructed PLN to convert diesel fuel to CPO to be used on at least 1.800 MW diesel-fueled power plant ,” Jonan said. Andriah Feby Misna, Director of Bioenergy at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said that PLN must make the conversion possible since PLTD can use 100% CPO, the biofuel that is yet to be processed into biodiesel or green diesel. This conversion fuel program important to help government to reduce use of fossil-based fuels. To Finland delegates, Jonan reaffirmed government’s commitment to use new and renewable energy in all sectors. He said that Indonesia is now implementing expanded B20 mandatory program both in public service obligation (PSO) and non-PSO sectors. “We are now implementing a policy to make it mandatory for biodiesel to have a bio-content of 20%. This is a tough challenge for us,” Jonan said. ***
