Businesspeople Encourage Decent Work in Palm Oil Sector

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Australia together with entrepreneurs in the Asia-Pacific region held a joint forum called the Bali Process Forum of Government and Business (GABF) to encourage implementation of responsible business practices. The meeting that was held in Nusa Dua, Bali on 6-7 August 2018, was to follow-up the first GABF meeting in Perth Australia last year.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Australia together with entrepreneurs in the Asia-Pacific region held a joint forum called the Bali Process Forum of Government and Business (GABF) to encourage implementation of responsible business practices. The meeting that was held in Nusa Dua, Bali on 6-7 August 2018, was to follow-up the first GABF meeting in Perth Australia last year. Attendees at the meeting included 100 business and 50 delegates from Asia Pacific countries. In this occasion, the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) promoted the implementation of responsible business conduct in palm oil sector, exclusively to provide decent work in oil palm plantations and palm oil mills. This is important since there are more than 19 million people work in palm oil sector. “We encouraged stakeholders in palm oil industry to take take part in promoting and implementing responsible business conduct,” said Sumarjono Saragih, Gapki Chairman for Labour Affairs, Tuesday (7/8/2018) as quoted by Tribun Sumsel. Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and her Australian counterpart Julie Bishop co-chaired the forum, while Eddy Sariaatmadja and Andrew Forrest were business co-chairs for Australia and Indonesia respectively. ***
