It Will Take 2-3 Years to Implement B100

INDUSTRY Minister Airlangga Hartarto has said that the government needs about two or three years to implement the use of fuel with 100% biodiesel content (B100), a type of biofuel commonly known as green diesel. “To implement B100 plan, we need new green diesel refineries and it will take two or three years,” Airlangga said at Indonesian Stock Exchange Building, Wednesday (1/8/2018) as quoted by detik.com. B100 is compliant with the Euro-4 emissions standard. According to Airlangga green diesel is made using hydrotreated vegetable oil. This process is different from B20 that needs esterification process. Hydrogenation process will make engines and machinery easy to adapt so that modification to engines and machinery wouldn’t be needed. Currently, the government is accelerating the use of B20 in the transportation sector, both in public service obligation (PSO) or non-PSO transportation. B20 is a blend of 20% by volume biodiesel with 80% by volume petroleum diesel. In Indonesia, the proportion of biodiesel will be gradually raised until it reaches its pure form (B100). ***
