TEH HAGUE-- Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi met Dutch Foreign Minister Stephanus (Stef) Abraham Blok to pave the way for an acceptable solution over the sustainable palm oil in European Union countries. The meeting was held at Dutch Foreign Ministry in The Hague, (5/4/2019).

“Palm oil is important for Indonesia, exclusively to lift people from poverty. Palm oil for Indonesia is not merely about sustainability, but also the key to achieve Sustainable Development Goals agenda,” Retno said as quoted on Kemlu.go.id.

Retno also expressed concern on the Draft Delegated Regulation adopted by European Commission which classifies palm oil as unsustainable “high-risk” ILUC vegetable. It is important to seek acceptable solution over the sustainable palm oil will.

Furthermore, both ministers also discussed efforts to foster cooperation between the two countries. They also talked about multilateral issues, included agenda of Indonesian presidency of the UN Security Council in May 2019.

Retno invited Blok to attend an open debate session at the UN Security Council during Indonesian presidency period. ***
