Babel Government To Build Palm Oil Mill

Bangka Belitung (Babel) provincial government is planning to build palm oil mill that will be managed by regional-owned enterprise (BUMD). Erzaldi Rosman, the Governor of Babel announced that as he met oil palm farmers and cooperations in his office, Thursday (21/6/2018). “We are going to build a palm oil mill that will have a production capacity of 15 tonnes per hour with an option to expand it 30 tonnes per hour. Operation of the mill will be managed by BUMD,” Erzaldi said as quoted by Bangkapos. Erzaldi demanded farmers’ commitments to supply fresh fruit bunches to the mill. “We demand supplies from farmers so that the mill could run well. This project requires large amounts of investment so that we offer shares for farmers.” Bangka Belitung has almost 140 thousands hectares of oil palm plantations owned by private companies and 63 thousands hectares by smalholder farmers in six regencies. About 3.000 hectares of them are expected to be replanted in this year. ***
