Instead of Disposing, Convert Waste Cooking Oil into Biodiesel
WHEN it comes to waste cooking oil, the same thing happens. People dispose it because they think there is nothing they can do with it. Of course people know waste cooking oil can be recycled, but not many of them do that. Most of them put used cooking oil in garbage bin or dispose it via kitchen drain. However, in the hands of creative people, waste cooking oil turns into something usefull and generate economic benefits. A group of youngsters in Makassar, South Sulawesi, for instance, convert waste cooking oil into biodiesel and turn it into marketable commodity. Pioneered by Andi Hilmy Mutawakkil, a student of Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) majoring in Anthropology, a group of youngster established a fuel business by converting waste cooking oil into biodiesel. The idea to recycle used cooking oil came as he learned that the city where he lives produce so many used cooking oil. Everyday, more than 17 tons waste cooking oil is disposed from households, restaurants, hotels, etc. Since then, they collect waste cooking oil from any possible sources, including hotels, households, restaurant and convert them using conversion into ready to use biodiesel. “We started the business with our own money. Our initial capital was Rp3,5 million and we collected raw material from fried food sellers,” Hilmy said in Makassar (25/10/2018). Today, they run the business seriously by establishing a firm, CV Garuda Energi Nusantara (Gen-Oil). They can produce 1.300 liters biodiesel per day with monthly turnover of Rp300 millions. Most of their consumers are fishermen who use biodiesel for their fishing vessels. Regarding the quality, they guarantee their biodiesel is safe for engines. If the fuel caused engine failure, they would replace the engine with new one. *** (Source: Detikcom)
