Govt Enhances B20 Implementation in Transportation Sector
A NUMBER of measures has been made by government to make sure the expanded B20 mandatory program is well-implemented. The various steps are also taken to remove any obstacles. The government is attempting to build more B20 facilities in eastern part of Indonesia to provide B20 for pioneer ships, ferries, and fishing ships. In that areas, B0 are still used due to lack of B20 supplies. “There’s no problem to supply B20 for western part of Indonesia, but not in some area of eastern part. In that case, government is strengthening facilities in eastern part,” Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment and Defense Equipment at the Ministry  of Industry Putu Juli Ardika said. Putu’s statement came as he spoke at an B20 socialization forum organized by the Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS) in Batam, Riau Islands (26/9/2018). Attendees at the meeting included officials from the government, fuel and biofuel companies, classification agencies, related associations, academia, state-owned enterprises, etc. According to him, for non-Public Service Obligation vessels, government is reviewing the use of Marine Fuel Oil (MFO) blended with biodiesel. Putu also said that in defense sector, government still allow the use of B0 on military vehicles such as naval ships and tanks since the test is still ongoing. The government is also conducting rail test for trains on two locomotives EMD CC205 and GE CC206. “The test has been done for six months and the result will be published by the end of September,” Putu said. A part from that, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with Research and Development Centre For Oil and Gas Technology (Lemigas) and the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) are auditing the use of B20 on heavy duty vehicles operated under very cold temperature in mining site located in highlands such as in Grasberg site of PT Freeport. “Meanwhile, government found no problem at all in automotive sector. The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) and Japan automotive assosiacion has reaffirmed its commitment to use B20,” Putu said. ***
