Government to Encourage Palm Oil Downstream Industry

The Ministry of Industry is developing palm oil and its derivative downstream industries in order to support economic development. “We are reviewing some technicalities in order to make sure that the products are not only saleable but also free of potential dispute,”  Director General of Resilience and International Industrial Access Development at the Ministry of Industry I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan said on the press release, (21/8/2018). According to him, there are at least three downstream channels that are potential to develop.

Firstly, oleofood complex, namely industry that process various type of products from refinery product for intermediate oleofood to oleofood products. “Some oleofoods that are produced in Indonesia are cooking oil, margarine, vitamin A, vitamin E, shortening, ice cream, creamer, cocoa butter or specialty-fat,` Putu said. Secondly, oleochemical complex industry, namely industry that process various type of refinery products for intermediate products of oleochemical to biosurfactan products, such as detergen, soap, and shampo, and biomaterial such as bioplastic. Thirdly, biofuel complex industry, namely industry that process industrial refinary products to produce intermediate product of biofuel such as biodiesel, biogas, biopremium, bioavtur, etc. ***
