JAKARTA—The Government of Indonesia makes it mandatory for cooking oils to be packaged, and stops circulation of bulk cooking oils. The program will be implemented on 1 January 2020 without transition period, in line with the implementation of SNI Certified Cooking Oils. The program mandate producers and sellers to sell packaged cooking oils.  “Starting from 1 January 2020, there will be no more bulk cooking oils sold in stores,” Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said at the launching of the program in Plaza Sarinah, Jakarta, Sunday (6/10/2019). Some activities were also held to enliven the launching event, including a fun walk and bazzar which sold packaged cooking oils at the fixed price Rp8.000 per liter, as well as a bazzar which sold products of small businesses under supervision of Ministry of Trade. `` The program is aimed to encourage people to consume safe and good-quality cooking oils. Packaged cooking oils are more hygienic than the bulk ones. The government also controls the price by imposing ceiling price to provide certainty. Current ceiling price is set at Rp11.000 per liter. He stated that the program is a part of strategic government programs to increase local products consumption. Initially, the program had been rolled out since 2014 and the government had reaffirmed its commitment to the program by implementing mandatory use of packaged cooking oil which was launched on 1 April 2017. However, the program was suspended as producers were not ready to expand their packaging units and to establish packaging industry in certain areas. Enggartiasto expected cooking oil producers to get themselves ready for this program. *** ``
